Expert Smallholding Care
Overview
Smallholdings are an important part of Pembrokeshire's rural landscape – and the animals kept on them deserve the same quality of care as those on larger farms.
Our farm team works with smallholding owners keeping a wide range of species, from goats and alpacas to pigs, poultry and small mixed herds. Whether you keep animals as a lifestyle, for conservation grazing or as a small commercial enterprise, we're here to help.
We understand that smallholding owners often have different needs to large farms – and we're happy to take the time to explain things clearly and work with you at whatever level of knowledge and experience you have.
Goats
Goats have specific health needs that differ from sheep and cattle. We see both dairy and meat breeds, as well as pygmy and pet goats, and can advise on nutrition, vaccination, parasite control and the many conditions that commonly affect them.
Alpacas and llamas
Camelids require a knowledgeable approach. Our team is experienced in alpaca and llama health, including body condition scoring, dental care, infectious diseases and the specific challenges of breeding and youngstock management in this species.
Pigs
We provide veterinary care for both commercial and smallholder pig keepers, including health planning, vaccination, nutrition advice and the veterinary requirements for pig movement and medicine use.
Poultry
From backyard hens to small laying flocks, we can help with health investigations, post-mortem work to investigate losses, flock health advice and the biosecurity measures that are increasingly important in the current disease environment.
Small cattle and mixed herds
Small herds of cattle on lifestyle holdings have the same veterinary needs as larger herds – TB testing, fertility work, calving assistance, vaccinations and herd health planning. We're here for all of it.
