Experienced Veterinary Surgeon Opportunities

Come and work in Pembrokeshire. Where the sun always shines and the surf is on your doorstep! Open to graduates and experienced vets.

About the jobs on offer, and about you

We are growing, so to maintain our service standards and ethos of staff wellbeing we need to recruit, so are looking for experienced vets for permanent roles.

A medicine bias would especially complement the current team.

However, finding the right person to fit our practice is our priority. Not only do we have the strength in depth, experience, funding and vision to be able to adapt and develop a rewarding role to suit your career progression, we will also consider a novel or flexible working rota.

About our clinical aims and our facilities

We aim for excellent customer service and practice to a high clinical standard, so invest in staff, facilities and equipment to meet these evolving targets.

We have a truly mixed clientele and a rewarding and varied caseload. Being the vet for our local charity brings its own variety of work and significant neutering volume.

We are a nurse training practice, and while yet to put ourselves through the RCVS PSS scheme set ourselves the aim to be of a hospital level (without being on site overnight) at our main site in Haverfordwest, and Tier 2 at the Pembroke Dock branch. We have achieved ISFM cat friendly status: gold in Haverfordwest and bronze in Pembroke Dock.

Haverfordwest has four consulting rooms, plus a dedicated cat room, and quiet room. Separate dog, cat and isolation wards. Central prep room leading to two theatres, dental room and x-ray. Our lab room has the latest suite of kit for haematology, biochemistry and urinalysis from IDEXX. We have digital x-ray, digital dental x-ray, gastroscope, 4mm bronchoscopy/rhinoscope, ultrasound with colour doppler, ECG, MMP TTA, etc, etc

The Pembroke Dock branch has two consulting rooms, prep with recovery kennels, theatre, and main inpatient ward.

About the practice

Fenton Vets are (and always will be) an independent practice, progressively practising to a high clinical standard and proud to offer a first class service to our clients whilst putting the wellbeing of our staff first. We happily invest in personal development, facilities and equipment to meet these evolving targets.

Since its inception as a mixed practice in 1950 we have served the local community, now with a growing staff of approximately 50, a few of whom have been with us for several decades, we have separate farm and SA clinical teams.

We are an active member of XL vets as we feel there are real benefits to our staff and business from participating within this community of independent practices with a common culture and values.

VetGDP registered, and with several years experience running a successful farm animal internship we have the strength in depth to offer whatever support you might need.

About the location

Pembrokeshire has the only Coastal National Park in the country: and boasts a rich variety of activities, clubs, groups and societies, especially for anyone loving the coast. Words cannot really do it justice so if you haven’t experienced it before, come and visit for a few days, use us as your tourist guide, and see for yourself why we are all so happy to live here.

About the package

  • Days: You may work 4.5 days a week (~37hours), but we do not discriminate should you wish to do less; which many staff do. When your rota includes a weekend you have more days off in the week: you do not work extra days.
  • Hours: 8.30am-5.30pm unless on call when consulting finishes at 6.30pm.
  • OOH: this is an equally shared rota, with a nurse to back you up and phones answered by a handling service. After 10pm everything is handled by the local OOH service, which we feel strikes the right balance between providing a service to our rural community and ensuring a reasonable working pattern for us.
  • Holidays: 5weeks + bank holidays, plus a reduced rota over the Christmas fortnight.
  • Pension
  • CPD is encouraged, supported and funded.
  • VDS paid.
  • Salary: Very competitive
  • Accommodation: We are able to provide short-term accommodation whilst you look for something long-term, and we can help you with your search.
