Farm Animal October Newsletter 2026

This month's newsletter covers:

  • Calf talk roundup – Thanks to everyone who joined us at the Pelcomb Inn for our calf respiratory disease talk. As we head into autumn and winter, we're sharing some useful reminders on housing, ventilation, hygiene and feeding to help keep calves healthy. Vaccination is important but good calf management is just as essential.

  • Reducing dairy cattle lameness – Join us on Wednesday 28 October from 10am to 12pm at the Pelcomb Inn for our next SFS CPD session. We'll be covering mobility scoring and common causes of lameness. Call 07766 995118 to book your place.

  • SFS Biosecurity Assessment for Incoming Stock – The deadline to complete your Incoming Animal Biosecurity Risk Assessment is 31 December 2026. We're sharing some key measures to consider, including isolation of incoming stock, pre-purchase checks and treatments or vaccinations on arrival.

  • Lab results and BVD testing – Please remember to include farmlab@fentonvets.co.uk on your lab test forms so we receive the results too. Annual BVD blood testing is also due, so get in touch to book yours.

  • More SFS training coming soon – Keep an eye out for upcoming sessions covering beef lameness, sheep lameness and mastering medicines.

Download the full newsletter for more detail, or get in touch with our farm team if you have any questions.
