Cat microchipping legislation now confirmed
This week Defra laid draft legislation which will make cat microchipping mandatory in England. We fully expect the devolved administrations to follow over a period of time. A few points worth noting:
- Cat owners will have until 10 June to microchip their cat(s).
- There are over 9 million cats in the UK with an estimated 2.3 million of them not microchipped.
- Going forward cats will have to be microchipped and their details stored on a compliant microchip database before they are 20 weeks old.
