Registered Veterinary Nurse | RVN NCERT(Surg)
Helen
Helen's route into veterinary nursing took her from part-time reception and animal handling work while completing her Duke of Edinburgh award, to Harper Adams to study the FdSc course in Veterinary Nursing. Fenton allowed her to complete the practical elements of the course, which led to her joining the team in July 2010. She qualified in 2012 and has been here ever since. A self-described all-rounder who enjoys all aspects of nursing, Helen has since completed a Certificate in Surgical Nursing, allowing her to perform minor surgical procedures under the direction of the veterinary surgeons, and is working towards further experience in this area. She is also the go-to for pet travel enquiries.
Helen works across our Haverfordwest and Pembroke Dock branches. Outside of work, family is her hobby – days out with the children, dog walks, beach trips and spending time with friends. She also enjoys knitting, sewing, crochet, needle felting and baking, and is never without a good murder mystery book.
At home she has Diesel, an 11.5 year old Doberman who is your typical big dopey dog with a love of snacks and a habit of counter surfing; Gamora, a 6 year old hand rear kitten who came into the practice during Covid lockdown and stayed considerably longer than the weekend that was promised; Oren, a corn snake and Facebook rescue who can be a bit grumpy – earning herself the nickname Danger Noodle; and Twilight Sparkle, a 12 year old common musk turtle, named during what Helen describes as her My Little Pony era.
Her favourite thing about Pembrokeshire? The hidden coves, beautiful coastline and villages with their unique way of making you feel part of it all – and the activities, days out and adventure. Even the rain.
