Farm Animal Vet | BVMS (GPCertSAM) MRCVS
Joan Phillips
Joan grew up on a dairy and sheep farm in Scotland and always knew she wanted to work with farm animals. She joined us just nine months after qualifying in April 1999, spent ten years with the farm team, then took a detour into small animal practice for a few years before returning to where her heart is. She enjoys everything about being a farm vet, particularly problem solving – from mastitis investigation and milking time testing to cell count analysis and fertility issues – and takes pride in coaching and mentoring others in the team.
Outside of work she spends most of her spare time on the farm, where they have pedigree Texel sheep. She also loves watching her daughter's music concerts and her son's sheepdog trials.
At home she has Roxie, a Chihuahua who thinks she's firmly in charge of the working collies.
Her favourite thing about Pembrokeshire? The scenery, the outdoors and the variety in dairy farming – and the farmers. After more than 25 years she says there's still plenty of Pembrokeshire left to explore.
